So here are some of my favorites:
Divergent by Veronica Roth
The concept introduced in the plot is amazing! Although the love story in this is kind of cheesy, but there are so few of the love part anyways so it doesn't matter. Finished this in one night.
Genghis: Birth of an Empire by Conn Iggulden
This historical fiction mesmerized me with the histories of Genghis Khan and the story of his life (I know most probably diorg tokok tambah) but I really enjoyed reading it!
Tuesday With Morrie by Mitch Albom
A truly inspirational book. To put it simply, his old professor is dying and together they discover the meaning of life and living. In the end of the book, you will shed a tear (in my case, I cried, on the airplane back to Nashville seblah makcik indian ni sampai makcik tu pandang pelik).
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
This is a required reading for my Engineering Management class but I read it way before I took that course. It opened my eyes and helped me to improve myself and how I interact with others.
Here are some of the books that I do NOT recommend:
Oppression by Jessica Therrien
The concept of the story is really interesting, that's what got me into reading it. Basically ada group yg descendants from the Greek Gods with supernatural powers. UNFORTUNATELY the story line sucks and tak make sense. Contoh: this girl is 80 years old (but she looked like 18), however she is so stupid and unwise in making decisions. She acted like a teenager padahal dah tua, dah makan asam garam. TAK MAKE SENSE. and the love story is sooooooo lameeeeeeee and cheesyyyyyyy and clicheeeeeeeee. OMAIGODDDD. I read the book for the concept, I want you (the author) to develop the concept, bukannye pegi tulis pasal love story minah ni.
The Twelfth Imam by Rosenberg
This is the first book, before the The Tehran Initiative. and I would say that you can skip the first book and still can understand what is happening in the second book. again, the concept is amazing: pasal kemunculan imam ke-12, and how the world is changing because of it. BUT again, cerita meleret pasal love life hero ni, pasal life nuclear scientists, pasal life sume character dalam tu. I mean, sikit2 sudah la. I wanna know what happen with the twefth imam, not the other characters in the book.
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
I closed the book after a few pages. The author FAILED to arouse my curiosity. and some dialogues in the book change all the words ending with "-ing" to "-in". Contoh: "helpin'".
OMG who write that??? and there are a LOT of dialogues pulak tu. mmg annoying baca.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The books that I didn't mention are mostly so-so. I have not read Hunger Games yet, and refuse to do so due to all the "OMG Hunger Games is soooo awesome" commotion that's going on. I will not surrender. hahah. and I think the reason that I hated Maze Runner and Oppression is because I read them right after I finished Divergent. So, my expectations were kind of high. and I also don't like love stories in novels yg bukan romance. If I want some cheesy lovey dovey stuff, I'd buy romance novels. So if your book is about war in the middle east, or greek gods gone bad, focus on that!
