Basic plot: Love is a serious disease (like cancer!) and everyone needs to be cured when they turn 18. As you can expect, the main girl (Lena) fell in love before her operation date and refused to be cured.
I read the book without any high hopes on it. But as I turned the pages, it got better and better. I am not going to spoil the plot, but just comment on the writing style etc.
Book #1
Delirium introduces the audience to the disease and the author wrote so well to make me understand how the society can see love as a bad thing and needs to be cured. When Lena started seeing someone, I was like, "Girl, you are so dead". Good thing is, there are no cheesy love story lines. The worst was only, "oh how our body fits each other, kissing feels like breathing etc". that was it and it was only when Lena had just fallen in love, when she was first introduced to being in love. and there was no sex. just kissing and hugging. no extra emotional touchy2 feely stuff. then the final action plot, when they were about to escape, was so intense and well written that I felt like I was watching a movie.
I bought the second book straight away.
Book #2
The chapters in Pandemonium are now-and-thens. Again, amazing concept, were not confusing at all (each chapters were named Now and Then). For the first half of the book, the "then" chapters were longer because they were the continuation from the first book. The "now" chapters made me curious as to what had happened in between, and urge me to continue on reading to find out. As I can make out what could have happened, the "then" chapters gets shorter and the author concentrated more on the "now"s. Again, amazingly written. She knew that what the audience would want to read, and gave them exactly that.
I highly recommend the Delirium series. I got teary eyed at the end of the first book and for the first half of the second book. Maybe it's because I'm sensitive like that, I don't know. I also love a few principles of Lena, like saying "I understand what you're going through" is a total BS and we can only try to understand, but never actually do. And I love how the author wrote Lena's character and personality. They made sense, logical. She's weak, she's not that strong-willed, she needs others to help her survive. Like any other average person does!
Well, I hope you guys enjoy reading them!
