LEE-CHEE or LYE-CHEE?

In Malaysia, we called it laici (LYE-chee). I'm pretty sure it's because the Chinese in Malaysia called it that too.

Then, a month back, Pinkberry came up with a new flavor: Lychee. So I went to the counter an asked for a small LYE-chee. then the server said, what would you like on your LEE-chee.

Everytime I went there, I would pronounce it as LYE-chee. and everytime, the Pinkberry people reply me with LEE-chee. why u making me feel stoopid peepol?

So I googled and googled and I got the explanation.

Americans say LEE-chee. Most British say LYE-chee. Experts call them LYE-chee. In Cantonese they are LYE-chee. In Mandarin they are Li-zhi.

So everyone's right! Tapi aku lagi btul because 3/5 golongan manusia kat atas sebut LYE-chee.

xoxo
